Ian and Steve,
Can’t thank you guys enough for starting this show. I found it fascinating and such a pleasure to listen to. I look forward to more episodes to come!
Craig.
Love the show. I’m sure it will come up but I’d love to hear your perspective on mastering poor mixes when remixing is not an option. Many thanks for doing the show.
Ian & Steve
Well done for getting this together. It means that we can now finally get all Ian’s wonderful nuggets of knowledge which are scattered like little jewels on the sea in one ‘single’ place.
I’m pretty sure that Ian is equally happy to consolidate all his knowledge.
Great. Looking forward to seeing how far this can develop.
This podcast is fantastic. Detailed and yet easy to follow. Thank you!
Hey Ian!
Thanks for the podcasts. These are fantastic. Any experience/opinions on outboard limiters like the Rockruepel Limit. One or the Pendulum Audio PL-2?
Any advantage in these?
Thanks Clay, glad you like it. But sorry, I haven’t used either of those.
Hi Ian,
Comment:
You mentioned you used to use -0.3 dB as the ceiling (margin) on the limiter when the limiter was intern-sample peak aware.
Question:
Are you now recommending a -1.0 dB ceiling, across the board, even when the limiter is interns ample peak aware?
Thanks!
I meant inter-sample peak aware. : )
Hi Ian,
Comment: Great SHOW!
I use iZotope’s limiter and have read the technical definition of threshold and margin, but still not sure what the difference is.
Question:
What is the difference between threshold and margin, and why set the margin to -1.0 dB and not the threshold?
Thanks. : )
Ian – I love the show! Would you do a show sometime about mastering for classical music?
